The tradition began over 33 years ago and has grown every year since then. Many families make this event an annual Christmas tradition. For more than three decades, the St. Albans Festival of Lights at City Park has attracted thousands of visitors from near and far to see the dazzling lights and holiday scenes that light up the city park property.

The festival is open nightly from 6 pm to 9 pm through December 26th. St. Albans, West Virginia, and the dazzling lights at City Park is just a short 15-minute drive outside Charleston and boasts one of West Virginia’s Best and Longest running drive-through Christmas lights displays. The St. Albans Christmas light display has been a family tradition for over 33 years and continues to attract thousands of visitors every year.

How long is the St. Albans Festival of Lights Open?

The event is every night from 6 pm to 9 pm through December 26th. We are closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to ensure our crew members enjoy family time. The event will reopen on December 26th at 6 pm.

What are the Best Hours to visit the St. Albans Festival of Lights?

Drive-through Christmas Lights near Charleston, WV

The best time to see this festive drive-through exhibit is right when they open up at 6 pm or just before dark during peak hours. We recommend that you plan your visit accordingly so you can get in line early and not miss any of the light displays.

How much does it cost to drive through the Lights?

There is no cost to driving through the Christmas lights. We welcome small or canned food donations that assist us in maintaining the event’s operations and helping our local food banks.

Can you walk through the light displays?

Our event is open to vehicle traffic only. We do not allow pedestrians to walk through the event for safety reasons. Our walking tour event is the only time foot traffic is allowed through the festival.

Will Santa Claus be available for pictures this year?

Due to the ongoing pandemic, we’re still keeping Santa Clause at a safe distance. However, he will do his best to be on-hand, waving at visitors on Friday & Saturday night.  Children can download a Letter to Santa from our website to ensure they get their letter to the North Pole in time>

Are you serving hot chocolate as you have in the past?

Unfortunately, our refreshment booth that normally serves hot chocolate, cookies, and other treats will be closed again this year due to the ongoing pandemic and at the suggestion of Health & Safety guidelines.

What other activities does the festival offer?

There will also be a Santa House set up at the park for kids to stop and say hello! There is always a chance you can catch a glimpse of Santa as he makes his way through checking in on all of his girls and boys.

Our event wouldn’t be complete without some holiday music provided by WWSA 96.9 FM in St. Albans. Classic favorites and contemporary holiday hits make for the perfect backdrop to take in the light display.
